If it doesn’t detect the right patterns, you may still have epilepsy and ambulatory monitoring or video EEG may be necessary.ĮEG can also detect abnormal brain waves after a head injury, stroke, or brain tumor. An EEG is of value for diagnosing epilepsy only if it detects patterns typical of epilepsy. For example, if you have a seizure disorder, the EEG can show where abnormal activity in your brain comes from and can help distinguish between generalized or focal seizures. It is most often used to determine the type and origin of seizures. This allows you to be observed during a seizure so that your physical behavior can be monitored at the same time as your EEG.Īn EEG measures electricity that your brain makes it does NOT measure thoughts or feelings, and it does not send any electricity into your brain. Ambulatory EEG involves wearing a portable EEG recorder on a belt around your waist for several days or weeks.You will be given specific instructions regarding food, drink, and medications that may need to be avoided. Abnormal brain waves may appear when the body is stressed or fatigued. You may be asked to do a sleep-deprived EEG, which requires you to have only 4 hours of sleep. In addition to the reference scenario, this study presents a sensitivity analysis that shows how the EEG surcharge changes with different key parameters.Figure 1. Like the original EEG Surcharge Calculator, the new software is available in an expert version and an easy to-use one for decision-makers. Yet within this framework, key parameters such as expansion levels, electricity prices, and electricity use can be varied to represent different future scenarios. A crucial one - for the sake of simplicity - is that Germany’s surcharge system for renewable energy will remain essentially unchanged over this period. Such far-reaching projections require many assumptions. To get long-term answers, we asked the Oeko-Institut to expand the capabilities of our software to calculate EEG surcharges as well as many other values through 2035. To help answer the question, in 2013 we developed the EEG Surcharge Calculator, which in just seconds can project specific costs and benefits up to 2018. Nevertheless, since being announced, the question “How much will it cost?” has occupied the centre stage of political debate. The Energiewende – Germany’s transition to a sustainable, efficient energy system dominated by renewable energy – is a long-term project that will span generations.
